All,
Last Tuesday (seems like months ago), we had an excellent meeting in
Beijing. Italo Vignoli took minutes, and will be posting them, along
with suggestions of what to do ("action items") later on this week.
Briefly, the points discussed had a lot to do with enhancing cross-NLC
communication and making it easier for the NLC projects to do QA of
the builds for which they are responsible. Sophie and André will be
posting on the QA processes, but QA is of very great importance.
So is cross-NLC communication. As OOo gets larger and is used by more
and more millions, it runs the risk of fragmenting. No one wants that.
We all want healthy isodirectional communications, and most of the
larger projects have done a good job of that, thanks to Charles'
insistence.
But we can do better :-). And we can use RSS technology, conceivably,
to help out.
There were other points raised, and one of the most important was
focusing on our key message, that can be used to promote OOo by all.
The final wording is by no means complete, and merits some discussion
with the marketing group. But the basic idea is that OOo is a set of
free productivity tools that can be used by anyone, in business,
government, creative arts, and that it uses a format that works with
any number of other applications. We are not just an office suite and
we are not incompatible; and we are a mature project and product that
is free and sustained by a community of thousands.
cheers,
Louis
