Since our goal is that 2.11 should be the "bridge" release - maybe we could do a variation of my original proposal - see if the message coming is in "old" format and raise a deprecation and also manually implement "new" format there (that would likely require some manual modificaiton of the openapi specification there and some conditional code in 2.11 (if possible).
