I would go further and argue that isolation should be the default mode. In general, the cleaner and safer mode should be the easy one to reach, while dangerous with potential performance should be opt-in. It is of course already not the case, but personally I think that’s a strong enough argument to +1 on the new mode, plus a deprecation/migration period to make the new mode the default.
