Status check: on `main` the window described here no longer exists. Since #73554 (merged 2026-09-26), `TaskInstance.fetch_handle_failure_context` calls `ti.notify_failure(error)` **before** `ti.prepare_db_for_next_try(session)`. A slow `on_task_instance_failed` listener (such as OpenLineage) therefore no longer runs between the `task_reschedule` DELETE and the `ti.id` UPDATE. The two statements are adjacent again, which is the narrowing the reporter's comment above suggests is sufficient. This is also why #71966 was closed. #73554 is in 3.4.0b1/b2. I could not find a backport to `v3-3-test`, so 3.3.x (and the reported 3.1.8) still have the old ordering.
