   Don't understand this sentence - do you mean that ByteKey.EMPTY stands for 
an empty start key and for an infinite end key?
   
   Would it significantly simplify things if ByteKeyRange had the flag "is the 
end the infinite key", instead of overloading the meaning of the empty key?
