James Malone commented on BEAM-776: ----------------------------------- Good point. I propose a two-step solution here. 1. I can rename all of the categories in posts to blog to immediately clean things up 2. We can re-do how blog templating works so categories are useful (and not in the URL) and also add support for tags. Something similar to this (http://www.minddust.com/post/alternative-tags-and-categories-on-github-pages/) With #1 also will add redirects to prevent breaking links. WDYT? > Use 'categories' better on the blog > ----------------------------------- > > Key: BEAM-776 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/BEAM-776 > Project: Beam > Issue Type: Bug > Components: website > Reporter: Frances Perry > Assignee: James Malone > Priority: Minor > Labels: starter > > The enticingly named 'categories' field in the blog headers seems completely > useless. As far as I can tell, all it does it show up in the URL in wonky > ways without giving search capabilities or useful grouping. We should figure > out if there's something better to do here. > Example url wonkiness caused by seemingly relevant categories: > http://.../beam/update/2016/10/11/strata-hadoop-world-and-beam.html > http://.../beam/release/2016/06/15/first-release.html > http://.../beam/python/sdk/2016/02/25/python-sdk-now-public.html > For now, I suggest all new blogs just use the category 'blog'. -- This message was sent by Atlassian JIRA (v6.3.4#6332)
