   Hi all,

Just a heads-up that Buildstream 1.6.9 is broken with any Python higher than
3.11.x - I've been packaging Buildstream 2.x for Nixpkgs, and I did -
experimentially, and also for legacy - package Buildstream 1.x as well.

The issue I'm running into is with `versioneer.py` again - this was first
reported as a similar issue with #1855, and fixed in #1868, but it has arisen
again.

Attached to this issue is a log file from the Nix build command.

I know that we have moved on from Buildstream 1.x, and I do question if we
need to fix this, but once Python EOL's anything older than 3.12.x, then there
is the possibility of brekaage for clients who still use Buildstream 1.x - not
sure if we want this or not.
