Thanks @oscerd and @gnodet for tracing the execution flow and verifying! I agree with your analysis - loadSpecificationFrom(...) guarantees a non-null OpenAPI object or throws an exception, so openapi is never null at this call site. Since there is no reachable NPE scenario here, I am closing this PR to avoid adding unreachable defensive code.
