Thanks a lot @prateekranganath for looking into this, and for the clear description and test! CAMEL-25923 was already claimed on the JIRA by @seshuthota ([comment](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CAMEL-25923?focusedCommentId=18129765&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-18129765)), and their PR #28301 was opened earlier for the same fix. #28301 also covers one more case the ticket asks for: with `variableSend` pointing at a `null` variable, the message body must be kept as well (the same as `marshal` does). In this PR, that case still sets the body to `null`. To avoid reviewing two PRs for the same change, I'm closing this one in favour of #28301. Please don't let this put you off: a good way to avoid overlap next time is to leave a comment on the JIRA before you start, and to look for an open PR that references the ticket.
