Thanks, good catch. Fixed in f4c8682513fb: the message no longer reads
`batch.get(0)` on an empty List (or a null first element), so the client's
`NullPointerException` stays the cause. New test
`insertEmptyListKeepsTheClientErrorAsCause`.
