Closing this as answered, since `camel.source.marshal` with camel-jackson solved the original question, as confirmed above. In 4.22.x the replacement camel-telegram-source-kafka-connector already marshals every incoming message to JSON inside its Kamelet, so no extra option is needed: https://camel.apache.org/camel-kafka-connector/next/reference/connectors/camel-telegram-source-kafka-source-connector.html. If you set a data format explicitly on 4.22.x, note that Camel 4 registers the Jackson data format as `jackson` (the `json-jackson` name used in this thread comes from older Camel 3 releases).
