We understand that is an issue that should be improved, but don't think it 
should be a blocker to moving forward.

We at Twitter are happy with this version and can't afford to spend any more 
time on it. We'd like to see this committed to trunk soon, but either way we're 
going to be running this code indefinitely, whether or not it ever makes it 
into an open source release.
