Rebased and pushed with the comment included above the sstablesMap property. 

Not totally sure about the best way to exhibit this bug. Reckon a unit test for 
the act of marking compacting something we shouldn't be able to (i.e. something 
not in the live set) would be sufficient? Since if it _does_ occur, it can 
definitely result in this (just with timing issues that are hard to replicate). 
We should be able to get that much without too much difficulty.
