Given that we can only do it for three types at best (blob to ascii, blob to 
utf8, blob to inet), I don't think making any exceptions, even if you 
pinky-promise that the types truly match, and introducing special syntax, is 
the right way to go. Agree with Sylvain here, except not fine with {{FORCE}}.
