The basic code in question still seemed to be there in the 2.1 and 2.2 master
branches on git.apache.com, although if there is a more esoteric fix somewhere
else in the init script I may not have noticed it. We are observing the problem
in 2.1.8 on Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS.
