Good job starting the branch to port Cassandra to JDK9. I'm looking forward to
work together with you on this ticket :^)
Currently I'm not focused on performance but rather in functionality. I'd like
to delay any discussion about what type of lock to use until that stage. I'll
try to move to work in the branch you created.
