Wow this is super tedious to go through. I can get rid of the specific Windowsy 
code but I do not know what to do with all the comments which are also 
mentioning the fact that "this has to be done like that because on Windows 
...". I am not going to rewrite it (even if I knew how) just because we are not 
supporting it anymore. Let's not touch what is not broken. We do not need to 
super super dilligent here.
