Curious about this one. Given that 2.2 is no longer supported, I assume no 
changes should be done on 2.2 branch anymore?

That means then that just removing the comment should suffice, right?

As I see, even if deprecated, Python 2.7 support hasn't been yet dropped, so 
the code under the comment is still valid and useful.
