Stefan Miklosovic updated CASSANDRA-18043:
------------------------------------------
Test and Documentation Plan: removal of old tests mentioning DTCS, aligning
of dtests to reflect the removal as well
Status: Patch Available (was: In Progress)

The build looks ok

PR: [https://github.com/apache/cassandra/pull/2015]
PR for dtests: [https://github.com/apache/cassandra-dtest/pull/207/files]

[~mck] I am planning to drop an email to ML about this to raise awareness that
this might happen in 5.0 so we ensure that everybody is on the same page
(preferably after 4.1 release).

On that note, when do you think is the right time this might eventually go in?
I think there will be plenty of time for things like this after 4.1 is out.

Too early to discuss it here but we might ideally bump 4.2-SNAPSHOT to
5.0-SNAPSHOT so I am not technically merging something to 4.2 when it comes to
deprecation as mentioned in the description.

> DTCS was marked as deprecated in CASSANDRA-9666 which was released in 3.0.8
> and 3.8. If I get our deprecation policies right, we wait one major release
> (4.0) and we can remove it in the next one (5.0). Having 4.1 about to be
> released soon and 4.2 will be 5.0, I think nothing blocks us from removing
> this strategy in trunk.
> This also makes CASSANDRA-18042 easier as it would most probably have to
> cover this strategy as well.
