i did
bin/nodetool -h localhost repair
bin/nodetool -h localhost compact
which terminated. Then i did
bin/nodetool -h localhost cleanup
which did not. CPU usage was close to zero. I left it running overnight but it
didn't terminate. Cassandra was running with -f on screen, so i logged in and
typed cntl-C. Cassandra said that it stopped listening to thrift clients but it
did not then shut down. Additional cntl-Cs didn't do anything. i had to kill -9
the process.
