## Development update — 2026-10-30 The implementation worktree and local M1 task checklist are ready. PRE-01 (dependency resolution and real-snapshot loading with Kernel 4.4.1) is in progress; no implementation task has passed its acceptance checks yet. Confirmed implementation details: - The latest-version cache uses a fixed TTL measured from load completion. Hits do not renew it. REFRESH invalidates it, and in-flight statements retain their pinned snapshot. - File-level streaming uses streamingSplitEstimate + streamSplits; the estimate must not enumerate all files. Cancellation/error cleanup is part of acceptance. - Metadata-only count(*) requires exact file statistics and no remaining row-level filter, and deducts DV cardinalities. Otherwise it falls back to a normal scan. - The HMS test setup will connect Spark 4.0 to the existing hive3 HMS, with separate Delta startup configuration. Small BE fixtures will be checked in with provenance; the full golden-table corpus will be prepared from a pinned v4.4.1 commit with checksum verification. - Variant remains M2. A custom Kernel engine remains conditional on planning-time measurements. Progress policy: update the local checklist and this issue after each task group or implementation commit, new validation result, or blocker change, and before ending a development session.
