emitted in the default 30s emission period. That's not ideal for getting the 
spread of message gaps across the emission period, i.e the average. 
Additionally, understanding what the min/max message gaps were, say for late 
data is helpful.
   
   Is the metric tracking the avg, min, max message gap within every emission 
period or in the entire lifecycle of the task so far?
