   ### What problem does this feature solve?
   Fixed split area for time series. Although we can set the fixed interval to 
one year for time series, the starting point for each year is not fixed, so the 
split area shifts underneath the data as the series is zoomed. If the interval 
is one year, fixing the split to 1st of January will prevent the split area 
from changing as the series is zoomed.

   Zooming the series by decreasing the range pushes the circled data further 
away from the split area; the split area is not locked to the data, it slips 
underneath, which looks weird and inconsistent if one expects the splits to be 
tied to the data.
