Changing the {{tarLongFileMode}} is not necessarily safe. The "gnu" mode has
been used here and elsewhere for the sake of compatibility, as it's widely
supported by the tar utilities of various systems. It needs to first be
determined how compatible the resulting format is with the implementations of
tar actually in use - this includes on OS X and the BSDs, not just Linux.
