it is possible to convert img to hex to be used by nrfjprog with help of arm-none-eabi-objcopy have a look at https://github.com/apache/mynewt-core/blob/master/hw/scripts/nrfjprog.sh (it is used by newt load when downloader is set to nrfjprog) -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
