Toivo Adams commented on NIFI-740:
----------------------------------

I am surprised that XSD validation doesn’t work.
Problem is that FlowFromDOMFactory getProcessor method expect "scheduledState"
is present in proccessor but conf/all-flow.xml in test resources does not
contain  "scheduledState" elements.
Method which extracts element content by name just return null.
    private static String getString(final Element element, final String
childElementName) {
        final List<Element> nodeList = getChildrenByTagName(element,
childElementName);
        if (nodeList == null || nodeList.isEmpty()) {
            return null;
        }
        final Element childElement = nodeList.get(0);
        return childElement.getTextContent();
    }

This leads to unfortunate situation where enum ScheduledState will tried to be
build from null value.
And Enum will throw NPE
I tried to add restrictions FlowConfiguration.xsd in the way that
"scheduledState" is required, but this doesn’t seems to hav any effect.

    <xs:complexType name="ProcessorType">
        <xs:sequence>
            <!-- The "id" is a name that is tied to the ability for a FlowFile
to be recovered in the event
            of unexpected process termination or execution failure. The "id"
should rarely change and if it
            must then the database directory should be deleted to be safe.-->
            <xs:element name="id" type="NonEmptyStringType"/>

            <!-- The "name" is a nicely displayable description of the
processor's duty-->
            <xs:element name="name" type="NonEmptyStringType"/>

. . .

            <xs:element name="scheduledState" type="ScheduledState"
minOccurs="1"  maxOccurs="1" />

I would prefer that the xsd validation would not allow invalid xml to be used.
I don’t have experience parsing to org.w3c.dom.Document.
So I don’t know why validation is not working.
I prefer to use JDOM/XPath and lately also JAXB.
Also JAXB can generate Java model classes from XSD and unmarshal XML easily to
model objects.

Thoughts?

Thanks
Toivo
