Review Comment:
Fixed in e2f5d44063. The protected field again has the Set JVM descriptor,
backed by a private ConcurrentHashMap key-set view; the comparison maxima
remain in that map. javap confirmed the descriptor, and 21
BasePartitionUpsertMetadataManagerTest plus 15 UpsertSnapshotRestartTest cases
passed.

Fixed in e2f5d44063. Both HelixInstanceDataManager metadata-returning
methods detach mapped metadata before releasing the segment. The eager copy
preserves removed and virtual columns and ZK timestamps. A post-close metadata
test and six HelixInstanceDataManagerTest cases passed.

Review Comment:
The close/read synchronization remains in place. I have not measured
concurrent same-segment query latency on the current head. The PR description
now lists that comparison as an explicit gate before broad enablement; the
setting remains opt-in. Leaving this thread open for the measurement.

Review Comment:
Agreed that the existing probes do not cover full serving load. The PR
description now names cold and reused sidecar startup/readiness, peak heap, GC,
RSS, and load concurrency as validation gates before broad enablement. I have
not claimed these measurements and am leaving this thread open.

Review Comment:
e2f5d44063 replaces the retained IndexSize objects and decoded Strings with
a packed primitive long[] of numeric index IDs and sizes, matching the eager
48-bit size representation. Existing index-size parity tests passed. Warmed
compression-summary and min/max heap measurement remains open, so I am leaving
this thread open.

+/// Versioned, file-backed metadata for a sealed segment. The source
`metadata.properties` remains the canonical
+/// representation for old readers and preprocessing.
+///
+/// The big-endian file starts with a 64-byte header containing the magic,
format version, total length, source
+/// `metadata.properties` and `index_map` length/CRC fingerprints, registered
index IDs, payload CRC,
+/// segment-property blob reference,
+/// column count, and record-table bounds. Sorted columns occupy fixed
180-byte records, followed by variable blobs;
+/// each blob reference is an absolute 32-bit offset and length. Numeric
column statistics are read directly from the
+/// backing buffer. The column layout retains names and reusable [FieldSpec]
references on heap.
+///
+/// A stale or corrupt sidecar is rebuilt from the canonical source and
replaced locally, using atomic rename where
+/// supported. Change `VERSION` whenever the encoding or the values derived
from canonical metadata change; old
+/// versions are rebuilt rather than migrated.

Review Comment:
Fixed in ce7d6c4549. The writer now serializes index sizes from the already
parsed ColumnMetadata entries and removes the separate tolerant index_map
parser. The 15 focused SegmentMetadataImplTest cases passed on this change.
