We also have seen some needs of customizing health status checks in Kubernetes and might be a good idea to make it pluggable. I think that is a useful thing to have. The static staus checker has always been a bit of a pain. However it not only increases the scope of this PR a lot, it also causes us to change all our internal software to start using the new interface for healthcheck.
