Resolution: Not a Problem
I've never seen this as a problem, I just create the images in the size I would
like them to be seen, and client-size image resizing, if necessary, is trivial
compared to the multimedia demands browsers today are expected to handle. But
for those with such a need, probably better to have them store the images in
open-source alternatives
(http://www.opencms.org/en/demo/features/version6/imageprocessing.html,
http://www.onehippo.org/library/concepts/images-and-assets/create-a-custom-image-set.html)
whose images can be called from Roller rather than have us create and maintain
our own separate implementation.

> Instead of sending full sized images to the browser and doing client-side
> image resizes to create thumbnails, we should instead store thumbnail images.
> Also, we should store image width and height as part of image metadata so we
> can size images correctly.
