Hmm, reimplementing the generator into C++ wouldn't be hard, would avoid having the python dependency, and cmake could first compile the generator, then run the generator, then compile the result. But at least for me, that would probably hit the point of decreasing the convenience/readability for something that started with the goal of improving it.
