Closing this experiment. As you said when you opened it, there was no concrete use case for suspending the request cycle, and nothing has happened here since 2017. The code it touches has also moved on: page locking was reworked in WICKET-6751, and master is on `jakarta.servlet`, so it would need to be rewritten anyway.
