As a person new to Hadoop, I was walking through the Quick Start pages
referenced above. I got stuck on the first example and had to go digging
through the scripts to figure out why it wasn't working for me.
It turns out that I didn't have the HADOOP_HOME environment variable set. It
would have saved a lot of time if the instructions mentioned setting this
variable.
