Benoy Antony created HADOOP-10665:
-------------------------------------

Summary: Make Hadoop Authentication Handler loads case in-sensitive
                 Key: HADOOP-10665
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-10665
             Project: Hadoop Common
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: security
            Reporter: Benoy Antony
            Assignee: Benoy Antony
            Priority: Minor

The authentication mechanism for http specified via
_hadoop.http.authentication.type_ is matched in in a case sensitive way. If one
specifies the type {simpe, kerberos} in the wrong case, the following exception
is thrown .

Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: Simple
        at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:366)
        at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:355)
        at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)
        at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:354)
        at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:425)
        at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:308)
        at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:358)
        at
org.apache.hadoop.security.authentication.server.AuthenticationFilter.init(AuthenticationFilter.java:148)
        ... 24 more

I believe , it is safe to ignore case during this comparison.
