Test failures are probably because this is patch is huge. Anway, we should
probably at least read the slaves file if it exists and warn that it's
deprecated for backwards compatibility. It's great that this removes a bunch
of whitespace, but it'd be nice to fix some of the checkstyle issues too while
we're here.
