if there's a way to fix up the automatin, i'm happy. but currently I'm trying
to automate even more than we do

for every release we create multiple release candidates; i did about 10+ runs
last time hitting problems with docker timeouts, laptop connectivity, getting
the maven artifacts up etc. we shouldn't have any manual stages at all.
