What Binglin says makes sense. Let's outline all the changes we want done (or
do them in a branch against trunk). We can merge all of these for 3.0 and break
compatibility, or if it's obvious that there are big performance improvements
available through the changes that can't be done compatibly, we can vote as a
community to break compatibility in 2.x.
