Bikas Saha commented on HADOOP-8973:
------------------------------------

During Datanode startup it checks if the data dir permissions are 755. Using
the above logic, is there a hole in that check too because it does not imply
that Datanode has permission to read and write to that directory? DiskChecker
is used to perform that check too using another checkDir() method.

> DiskChecker cannot reliably detect an inaccessible disk on Windows with NTFS
> ACLs

> DiskChecker.checkDir uses File.canRead, File.canWrite, and File.canExecute to
> check if a directory is inaccessible. These APIs are not reliable on Windows
> with NTFS ACLs due to a known JVM bug.
