i did think about applying this one - and i do have quite a lot of sympathy for your argument. in the end though, i think that 1.4.1 should be just a bug fix release.
i'm about to cut a 1.4.1 release candidate so i'd appreciate it if you could hold off your commit until after the release.

I think this a bug - if not a bug, then this is some very "low hanging
fruit" that could make it into 1.4.1 without too much pain. Someone who is
using Digester.addBeanPropertySetter() would just assume that the
digester-rules.dtd would contain a bean-property-setter-rule element.
I've applied the patch from Bradley Handy for this issue on my working copy,
it works. Robert, let me know if you want me to commit this change to CVS or
if you want to wait for the next release.
