Aaargh! Spoke too soon. This does seem to get maven to download the specified versions, but I am not seeing maven --info reflect the changes, so I am afraid that this may not be fully effective. Unless a maven expert chimes in and says this can work, we will have to go back to the independent script. I will check in a file with the commands in it to commons-build. This could be wrapped in a bash script or dos batch file.
