Portlet support had been available in nightly builds for over a year, and people were clamoring for a formal release that included that functionality. In the interest of getting a new release out sooner rather than later, I elected to postpone further enhancements until after the 1.1 release. 2) In order to cleanly support a number of the requested enhancements, as well as to clean up the complications that arose from adding portlet support and separating out the item factories while still retaining compatibility with the 1.0 release, FileUpload could really use a 2.0 release that would include a partial redesign.
