logging question

Hi,
Do you have to do anything special to get SimpleLog to output to the console?
I've done the following:
 

        System.setProperty("org.apache.commons.logging.Log", 
"org.apache.commons.logging.impl.SimpleLog"); 
        System.setProperty("org.apache.commons.logging.simplelog.showdatetime", 
"true"); 
        System.setProperty("org.apache.commons.logging.simplelog.log.httpclient.wire", 
"debug"); 
        
System.setProperty("org.apache.commons.logging.simplelog.log.org.apache.commons.httpclient",
 "trace"); 

But I don't get any output when I run my code.
