HttpClient shipped with JBoss 3.2.3? This is very interesting. Any idea if HttpClient is just bundled with JBoss is actually being used by JBoss internally?

You are absolutely correct. Mistake happens because of the JBoss environment including 'Jakarta Commons-HttpClient/2.0rc1' in the distribution of 'JBoss 3.2.3'. Tested with 'Jakarta Commons-HttpClient/2.0final' and everything looks like it works.
