Salve Koen, Alessandro, *! I' just a student interested in OpenMoko, so I have my information like you from the news, the webpage and this list. But don't trust to much some newsarticles and to avoid to become disappointed, don't expected to much.

As far as I understood is the Neo1973 based on a mass market mobil (with windows mobil), this explains the low price (compared with other developer plattforms) but also that the Neo1973 team has some limitations what hardware will be integrated on the one hand and I think much stress and a deadline when the hardware design for the first "production run" is fixed. When you sell more then 100.000 devices, even a 10 Cent decision will sinificant. I hope that some additional solderpoints could help us to use the interfaces of the S3C2410 to upgrade and extend the Neo1973 ourself. Even devices with official USB 2.0 like the Asus WL-500g deluxe does have disappointing transpher performance... Alessandro you has asked for the connector. Sean wrote me (on the list) that it is no normal size femal connector - so I would expect that it is a femal mini-USB-A conector and normal USB Bluetooth or WiFi adapters would need an adapter. According to www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS2986976174.html and other reports, the Neo1973 is based on Samsung S3C2410 system on a chip: http://origin.samsung.com/Products/Semiconductor/Support/ebrochure/systemlsi/2410_ds_200408.pdf http://www.samsung.com/Products/Semiconductor/MobileSoC/ApplicationProcessor/ARM9Series/S3C2410/2410UserManual.pdf But consider, not every IO is used or acessable on the circuit board of the Neo1973. That Sean and FIC announced the Neo1973 before the hardwaredesin is finalized could consumer makes wonder (hey, they anounced an unfinished product.... I want to know more...) but on the other hand the information about the high interest of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections and the information and tipps about the Wi-Fi chip Marvell 88w8388 from the OneLaptopPerChild project could help that there will be a device for OpenMoko developing with the potential of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. ;) But even without Wi-Fi AND Bluetooth the potential of the Neo1973 will be amazing and it will be a great step forward - it is already a great job of the OpenMoko team like Sean, Harald.... :))) Greetings from a sunny Aachen, rob _______________________________________________ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/community
