The neo1973 has ~8 times the floating point performance of a VAX 11/780 (double precision). The initial version of Mathematica was developed on a VAX 11/750 - the Freerunner should be about 20 times faster than that machine in floating point. It was also rare to run across an 11/750 with more than 4 MByte of RAM.
