First, because I didn't look very hard to find something close enough to what I needed :-) What I needed was a protocol to synchronize a set of "things" organized in folders, with the ability to store the same "thing" in several places, in realtime if connected but with an offline mode, with some kind of access permissions, and suitable both for atomic messages like calendar event and realtime flow like voip. None of syncml nor opensync fits this description.
