FWIW, against my personal experience (where this setting lead to suboptimal results), people have forced me to uplevel the speaker volume in the phone to the maximum in ogsmd. It's very possible that this contributes to the distortion. Try lowering it, e.g. via org.freesmartphone.GSM.Device.SetSpeakerVolume( percentage ).
