No, leaving it permanently lit would approximately halve battery life. Suspend current is around 8 mA, AUX LED current is around 6 mA (GTA02 revision 6)[1]. Blinking an LED with repeated resume/suspend cycles would have a much worse effect on battery life because of all the work the CPU has to do.
