Wasatch Community Gardens is seeking a Youth Educator!  The position starts
in January and goes approximately one  year.  

Wasatch Community Gardens is a non-profit, grassroots organization in Salt
Lake City, Utah.  Our mission is to help people grow and share fresh
produce; be an active resource for sustainable organic gardening; and to
teach urban youth cooperation, responsibility and ecological awareness.

Job Description: AmeriCorps Youth Educator

Hours:  
Eleven-month position (January 29 - December 21), 40 hours/week, flexible
schedule, some evenings and Saturdays during growing season

Salary:
$10,900 for a 1,700 hour AmeriCorps Position; educational award at end of
term $4,725; health insurance; paid holidays.

Qualifications: 
Experience leading groups of children and adults
Knowledge of sustainable gardening methods 
Ability to adapt to a changing balance between paperwork in the office and
outdoor garden work as the seasons progress.
Proficiency with Microsoft products

Responsibilities:
Teach Experiential Education Classes
.       Provide a safe, active, and engaging environment for students
.       Work with a variety of agencies and students, ages 3 - 22 years with
diverse backgrounds
.       Teach youth gardening classes under the guidance of the Wasatch
Community Gardens' curriculum
.       Collaborate with Youth Program Coordinator in developing curriculum
material and necessary teaching aids 
.       Collect and record class information to complete class rosters and
evaluations of the youth program

Assist with Coordinating Volunteer Projects
.       Lead volunteer projects with adult and teen groups in the garden.
.       Teach volunteers about sustainable gardening during the volunteer
sessions.

Garden 
.       Assist in garden planning and harvesting schedules 
.       Manage the "Tomato Garden" youth garden plots
.       Develop system for food donations from respective garden.
.       Work individually in the garden to help meet common space management
goals (weeding, path laying, educational sign display, compost etc.)

Other
.       Assist with annual Plant Sale fundraiser, Tomato Sandwich Party,
Volunteer Banquet, and other events
