After obtaining a degree in biology from Tufts University, Toby Hemenway worked as a researcher in genetics and immunology. Toby?s dissatisfaction with the direction taken by biotechnology led to his interest in the ecological design approach to sustainable landscapes, homes, and workplaces known as permaculture.
