[EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>I don't know if any of the currently
existing
community gardens in Albany NY were founded by Nettie Stevens, but here's
the link to Albany's Captial District Community Gardens ("CDCG") , which was
founded in 1972:

http://www.cdcg.org/

Here's CDCG's complete address and e-mail:

Capital City Community Gardens

If it turns out that Nettie Stevens was the great mother of communty gardens
in Albany, NY and these folks didn't know it, maybe this information might
start an annual garden party, fundraiser, or something in the State Capitol.

Who knows? Maybe a local Albany politician might get a day for her on a
local callendar or street corner?

Thanks for sharing this,

Subject: [cg] community gardens in albany, NY

say, this is sort of obscure, but i was reading a book over the weekend,
"Legends in the Garden" subtitled "Who in the World is Nellie Stevens?" and
in the chapter on Betty Cornell it mentioned that she was a vocal advocate
for community gardens and she launched an urban beautification program in
Albany.

so, i'm just curious if anyone knows of her community garden work and if her
program still exists. she discovered an unknown clematis, which was named
for her, is how she happened to be in the book. i hope that her community
building work would be as enduring as her botanic collection.
